The Ouroboros Express / Small Loan Studio
I joined Small Loan Studio as a writer and narrative designer on a major new overhaul of the original game.
My work has included:
- Designing, pitching, and writing for a substantial new romance story path (including scenes, dialogue, and conditionals).
- Identifying existing themes in the base game and fleshing them out to deliver a deeper, more compelling player experience.
- Designing, pitching, and writing a new inner-thoughts branching-choice system.
- Co-writing a major update to a key ending scene across all characters.
- Writing in a live video session format to produce strong, moving narrative and dialogue with a quick turnaround against tight deadlines.
- Taking on the role of an 'expert' for two existing characters, including the player-character.
- Editing other writers’ content that overlapped with ‘my’ characters to ensure consistency of tone and story trajectory.
- Writing various dialogue updates and improvements across the game.
- Preparing VO direction notes to assist voice actors and the audio production lead.
- Carrying out a narrative-audio pass of the game to propose audio additions and updates to underpin the story’s core themes, important moments, and NPCs’ characterisation.
- Collaborating with my director, leads, and other writers and departments to deliver a tight, cohesive story.
- Carrying out extensive QA passes across the game, both as a writer adding improvements and as a game tester.

🏆 AWARDED GRAND-PRIZE WINNER of Iffly’s annual game writing contest, 2024 🏆
From the announcement: “First place (and the accompanying prize) goes to a game that I truly enjoyed playing - a game that built a more dynamic world in three screens than some novels do in 80,000 words.”
This game was judged against five categories - originality, writing quality, style, gameplay, and ‘overall oomph’ - by a panel of industry judges.
Faucon is an interactive narrative game with three major branches - loosely inspired by the downfall of Anne Boleyn, but with a big fantasy twist.
This small but punchy game demonstrates my strengths in worldbuilding, characterisation, branching gameplay and dialogue, writing style, and dramatic pacing.
